We Feed The People With Love (WFTPWL) is a minority woman-run organization dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of Arizona’s unhoused and low-income communities. Founded by Charisma Meadows, Sharnette Newson, and Latoya “Shortstacks” Albert, the organization provides hot meals, basic necessities, and compassionate support to individuals facing everyday challenges. With a mission rooted in kindness, dignity, and community care, WFTPWL believes everyone deserves to feel valued, respected, and supported, regardless of their circumstances.

As a program of Queer Center AZ, We Feed The People With Love takes its mission directly into the community by visiting a different neighborhood each month, reaching individuals and families where support is needed. Co-founder Charisma Meadows also brings her professional experience in Behavioral Health Services to a mission centered on compassion and human connection. Through their dedication and grassroots outreach, these three women demonstrate that creating positive change doesn't always require grand gestures—sometimes it begins with a warm meal, a helping hand, and a whole lot of love.

Phoenix Coqui H Logo (2017).jpg

What started as a trip to Puerto Rico in 2013 turned into a beautiful love story and the beginning of something extraordinary. Alexis instantly fell in love with the island, its vibrant culture, welcoming people, and incredible food. He decided to make Puerto Rico his home, where he met Juan, a restaurant manager born and raised in Toa Alta. Their connection was instant, and in 2014, the couple moved to Phoenix in search of new opportunities. But something was missing—the authentic flavors of Puerto Rico.

Determined to bring a taste of home to the desert, Juan began collecting treasured family recipes and cooking traditional dishes in their kitchen. With Juan preparing the meals and Alexis delivering them in their Honda Civic, the couple slowly built a loyal following, turning their passion for food and culture into a growing business.

After nearly two years of hard work, dedication, and saving, Alexis and Juan purchased their first food truck in 2017, officially bringing Phoenix Coqui to the streets of Phoenix. Their grand opening was an overwhelming success, with lines wrapping around the block and food selling out in just two hours! Despite the challenges of 2020, their determination and community support helped the business continue to thrive. In February 2022, they achieved another milestone by opening their first brick-and-mortar restaurant, just one block from where their food truck journey began. Today, Phoenix Coqui represents more than delicious Puerto Rican cuisine—it's a story of love, perseverance, cultural pride, and two entrepreneurs who turned a dream into reality. From a home kitchen to a beloved Phoenix restaurant, Alexis and Juan continue sharing the heart and soul of Puerto Rico, one plate at a time.
